Original Church Building Built In 1858
New Church Building Completed In 1958
Founded in 1845
1845 New Prospect was formed on land owned by John Martin near Jim Coleman's house.
When the church joined the Reedy River Association, we had 29 members.
1858 A wooden building was built. Rev. Silas Knight was one of our early pastors. These were
hard times, and the early preacher usually had to farm to supplement their incomes.
1896 Membership: 140 During this period, country churches were larger than city churches as
most everybody farmed. We left the Reedy River Association to join the new Laurens
County Association.
